Workshops and Residencies - Offered by Roster Artists

WORKSHOPS led by Roster Artists

A workshop generally has an 'enrolled' number of artists who meet for longer periods of time. It may be half a day, a weekend, or sometimes a few weeks. The topic can be anything related to the career of performers. It is participatory in format and may have a performance as the end product.

Ron Luchsinger – Stage Director, Scenic Designer

  • Workshops on Acting for Singers
  • Workshops for Design Students

Each summer, Ron Luchsinger directs Acting Classes for Opera North's acclaimed Young Artist Program. Throughout the year he offers workshops featuring an approach to performing which combines and reinforces the commonality of singing, movement and acting. Classes utilize exercises designed to be as simple as possible while providing a firm basis for a confident singer/actor technique. Activities are based on teachings and techniques of Elemer Nagy, Sanford Meisner, Michael Chekov and on Luchsinger's own thirty years of experience as a teacher and director. Special emphasis is placed on developing an acting process in which singing and acting reinforce each other.

Luchsinger also offers workshops and lectures for design students (sets, costumes, and lighting). He is currently offering a series of guest lectures to advanced costume design classes at the University of Connecticut.

RESIDENCIES with Roster Artists

A Residency is the engagement of a Master Artist to be adjunct to the teaching/leadership of an educational institution, a performing company, or similar structure. It more often extends over a longer period from a week to a semester, or a year. Amongst touring artists, it may be just a few intense days as a part of their itinerary. The Resident may assist individual students in improving their art, give mini-lectures with practical applications following, or work side-by-side in ensembles with a performer paired with the Resident. The activities above may be combined in a residency with public performance by the Resident.
